Monday offered clearly the best cx on ENOX28 so far. The night was empty but later on cx was widely open coast to coast and all antennas were working hard from early morning to afternoon. I have checked briefly some minutes of Monday morning TOHs on east coast antenna. Many fine signals were noted including WCPT-820 and especially WCPC-940 with a strong, crystal clear signal for long periods.
I have two more nights to go. At the moment (Tuesday morning at 6:24 UTC) almost all TA -signals vanished on MW. Hopefully stations will fade in again later today.

ENOX28 13.10.2011-
ENOX28 is ready to go but the first night did not offer much to report. However, this morning and day brought some decent signals from NA and SA and CA as well.
A brand new KKXA 1520 in Snohomis, WA was booming in before miday local time with country songs and frequent announcements. The station signed on this Tuesday.

ENOX26
ENOX26 was not success at all. Very active and bad solar weather kept NAs away for the most of the time. However, some nice catches came thru after all. Please, find here the first draft of ENOX26 loggings.

ENOX26 - currently active solar weather
Poor conditions lately on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday because of the very active solar weather. So I have had plenty of time to go thru the files from Monday recordings. Nothing special results but however, I managed to pick up KGEZ Kalispell, MT on 600 kHz. This one has been inactive since September/October 2009. Recently the new owner has begun broadcasting again and it was heard instantly on ENOX with great standards and frequent announcements.
Here is a 750 kHz screenshot taken on Monday, Feb. 28, 2011 on ENOX26. It is very interesting to chase stations with NetSDR and SpectraVue software since the display shows all the time signals on different offsets with 0.73 Hz resolution. The four strongest signals can be marked with the different colors by the user.

ENOX26 started Sunday evening
I arrived in ENOX DX-location last Sunday. I set up equipment and tested antennas. Everything was OK - all antennas and a brand new NetSDR worked fine.
Monday morning offered some nice catches mainly from the west. Tuesday night and Tuesday morning were poor. Hopefully conditions get better as the week continued even if the predictions are not very promising.
Best catches so far are KTDD-1350, KHWG-750 and KAGI-930
Weather; clear and sunny. Yesterday's high -1C. This morning we had -10C .

While having spent two peaceful weeks of Christmas after LEM299 in Lemmenjoki, it was time again to ”refresh” a bit at ENOX – just 140 km north of our ski-cabin at Ylläs.
As has become customary, the better conditions have a tendency to avoid me at ENOX, and this time was no exception.
All the files have been examined and destroyed as of writing this (February 20). One 15 minute period with concentration on VA and some northern coastal NC saved the trip. Otherwise the stations logged were just “lone rangers” with lousy signal strengths and without any specific direction. Even if some nice stations were logged, typically nothing else worth mentioning from the same direction was heard.
Still, it´s always fun – either listening live or digging into current or older files – there will never be a moment without anything to listen to!
In the log, just subjectively “most interesting” stations (regarding the station itself or the time it was heard) have been listed. However, all identified stations on the GY-frequencies have been included.

ENOX24 - November 4, 2010
The solar weather has been little unstable lately and this can be heard very clearly on the radio. Not so much to pick up from NA in the nighttime but quite strong signals by WA-, OR- , AK- and HI –dominants in the afternoon. However, this morning gave quite a nice opening to the US east coast mixed up with many Puerto Ricon and Latin American stations. Some interesting stations from the last two days: KOHI-1600, WRTO-1200, WMRC-1490 and KALE-960 (tnx for the hint LEM Crew!)
As for the new receiver netSDR. It has been working greatly together with SpectraVue application nonstop since Sunday without any problems at all. The strong signal handling seems to be very good. I have not observed any serious overloading situations. In this way the new receiver seems to be even better than the previous models.

ENOX24 2.11.2010 - the best day so far
Some the most usual stations from EC and Newfoundland faded in last night as early as 19:00 UTC but they faded away soon. Nothing very interesting in nighttime but this morning and day were the best so far. Many huge signals were noted especially from the Pacific Northwest, Alaska and Hawaii.
From today’s logbook: KBIS-1490, KAGO-1150, KWDB-1110 and finally KQNK Norton, KS on 1530 kHz with a complete TOH –ID and Ap Network News .
NetSDR and antennas work fine. Weather outside windy and -6 degrees C.

ENOX24 - enjoying NA signals and testing netSDR
Strong NA signals daytime but worse overnights. Little boring conditions with lots of strong dominants all the time. Hopefully files will give pleasant surprises later on.

NetSDR is a very quiet, sensitive and dynamic receiver . It is pleasure to use it.

ENOX24 started on October 31st in the afternoon
Strong signals from CO and UT and generally from the west coast. During the live DXing I noticed KIHU-1010 and KPIO-1570. Both are new ones for me. The first night was quite poor with only the usual dominants. Hopefully this comin day will offer more...
I have an evaluation unit of RFSpace's brand new netSDR receiver with me for testing. After a couple of hours listening it seems to be truly a great receiver. It records 1300 kHz range and gives 0.73 Hz resolution when playing back recorded files. Great!
Thank you RFSpace and Pieter for letting me test this new super receiver.

ENXO23 - 14-15.10

The evenings could be much more lively - nothing to report from yeasterday.
First stations from the continental U.S. appeared at around 22 UTC, but just the very common ones (WLQV-1500, WWZN-1510, WWKB-1520...). It took another 2 hours, before more stations appeared. At midnight UTC it was worth the whilem to start taking the hobby more seriously. Nothing spectacular at night, though.
At this time of October the peak of the signals seems to take place just in front of UTC and the signals remain fairly decent until 7 UTC, then gradually being dampened by the sunlight. Still, some signals start to stay throughout the noon at this time of the year. Quite nice going in the morning, but without any specific direction.
The strong signal in the morning was KWEI-1260 with its new format ESPN Deportes. The most common Hawaii were strong again in the afternoon with KUAU-1570 being even stronger than the usual "king", KUMU, which also has changed format to ESPN and its call to KHKA.
Some of the more interesting stations identified at the time of listening live were WTTL-1310 and WRTO-1200 in the night and KGBT-1530 in the morning.
One more night and morning to go on ENOX23, then straight to LEM for one more week - hopefully with some OS as well !

ENOX23 IS ON - HN 12.-17.10.2010

After a 13 hour direct drive through blowing snow I arrived at ENOX on tuesday evening (12.10) at around 18 UTC, just to notice that the CME effects were still strongly on. Around 20 UTC the Canadians on 1230 started to come in, first CFFB and a moment later also CHFC. In addition to these, Greenland on 650. Even these with much variation in strength. Dead all night...
However, all of sudden in front of 5 UTC the MW band opened for some 20 minutes with the main emphasis on...Mexico ! The signals were still much affected by the CME with signals quickly coming in strong, only to disappear soon again. But lady luck was with me, as the strongest peaks in the signals centered exactly around the TOH. Since it was the midnight hour in most parts of Mexico, the Mexican National Anthem was heard all over. Some versions only lasted for 2 minutes or so, but the "norm" seems to be the 4-minute version. During that time some signals had time to fade in and out some 2-3 times. It was a gamble with identifications...,on 1080 the National Anthem was accompanied by what I believe to be a provincial one, postponing the "TOH" Id to 7 almost minutes past... Many interesting signals faded unfavorably, but having listened to all recordings from that period, I was still lucky to positively identify 23 stations around this signgle TOH , among them XETO-950, XETUL-1080, XEAU-1090 and XEYZ-1130, which all have not been previously logged in Finland.

In general it has been somewhat interesting to have the CME-type of disturbance, where the effects of the CME cause dominant stations being cut out on many frequencies and the general recovery from the more significant effects taking place quite rapidly. The past years have been packed with all sorts of Coronal Hole effects, which are very different: even smaller effects seemed to make signals disappear and the lenght of the recovery often was painfully long. This is a lot more fun with "only moderately strong" CME´s !"

ENOX22 opened a new season
The new DX season began on ENOX in Friday night when I arrived in Enontekiö for a short three-night-listening session. This was meant to be mainly antenna maintenance and checking trip but it turned out to be a quite successful mini DXexpedition as well.
NA has been audible in both nights with decent signals between around 23:00-04:30 UTC including strong signals from the dominants especially on the upper side of AM -dial. The most interesting catches so far are KATE-1450, WABB-1480, WBCK-930, WRWB-1470 and WDIA-1070.
Nice weather with sunshine and the high day temperatures around +15 C.

ENOX20 and Ylläs
DXING AT YLLÄS AND ENOX20 AROUND YEAREND (by Hannu Niilekselä)
After Christmas I had the chance to DX North America at Ylläs (a bit) and at ENOX20 (more serious), almost a week in each place. I was using Perseus only at Ylläs, but also a few SDR-IQ:s at ENOX20. Lists of stations logged (so far) at both locations can be found elsewehere on this website.
At Ylläs I was spending the Christmas holiday with family, so DX-ing was only the "second fiddle". At Ylläs I only have one 900-metre antenna (305 degrees) and various sources of external interference, which tend to kill any weaker signal and drive you nuts. In addition, since it is a ski-resort, any serious DX-ing is possible in the night and morning until 0700, shortly thereafter the ski lifts are turned on and thats it. So the results must be seen in a diffe Tough luck !rent light than those at ENOX20, where the array of 4 antennas and (at least this time) practically interference free surrounding give totally different possibilities for rare loggiongs.
But lady luck had her fingers tangled in the atmospheric conditions: the day I moved from Ylläs to ENOX20 also the pattern of the cx changed totally. Whereas at Ylläs the AM band opened up early practically every evening with daytimers coming in, those conditions disappeared. Only a few of the more common stations appeared on the AM dial around 22-23 UTC - truly boring. In the morning the conditions started aroun 07-08 UTC, but were quite general in nature and signals were crisp and clear only for a few hours the whole week, mainly oriented to the prairies: these would have been good Canada cx in the old days, but no stations there anymore ! The good midwest openings that LEM reported the previous week were gone too. Just some west coast, which died out shortly after 15 UTC. Life is sometimes tough !

ENOX19 offered new ones from SC and NM today
After two long working days I arrived in Enontekiö late Thursday evening and went straight to bed. I let the SDRs do the listening and saving in the night.
Conditions this morning and afternoon were good with many fine stations on the band. The most interesting catches include KANA-580, KSUB-590, KCSP-610, KHTS-1220, WLMA-1350 and KHOB-1390. WLMA and KHOB both with fine, strong TOH IDs.

ENOX19
Arrived in Enontekiö late Monday night. A few stations faded in and out around 2100 UTC but nothing special. Later in the night and morning stations mainly from east coast with steady signals. After 1000 UTC especially Minnesota and Dakotas offered interesting stations. KDAK-1600, KDDR-1220, KORN-1490 and WCMP-1350 were the new ones in my logbook.
It is cloudy and -1C outside. I'm going to stay a few days so stay tuned.

ENOX18 final update 3.12.
The final day for ENOX18 mostly followed the painful pattern: in practice nothing in the evening, in practice nothing in the night...
However, in the morning at around 07 UTC the signal levels rose and remained slightly better than on any of the preceeding 5 days. Still without any specific direction and just the usual dominant stations. Far from interesting but, in any case, living proof of the fact that the signals had not gone to sleep forever.
In the afternoon it was time to start packing - the end of ENOX18, the expedition with one of the strangest contrasts between geomagnetic indices and signal levels ever experienced.
