KDRS Paragould AR 1490 - verification

KDRS became my 6th AR -station and it was my second graveyard station from the state of Arkansas. Previously I have KAAY Little Rock-1090, KFPW Ft. Smith-1230, KRLW Walnut Ridge-1320, KFDF Van Buren-1580 and KWHN Ft. Smith-1650 verified.
KDRS identified "Sporting News Radio 14-90 KDRS" and the signal was clear and pretty strong as well. The station manager sent a short e-mail with a complete verification. I heard KDRS during PAX63 last October.

KWNC Quincy WA 1370 - verification

This one has been seldom heard around here but I was lucky to pick it up last autumn during PAX63. KWNC plays Country music and it identified as follows "This is 13-70 KWNC - this is Real Country Station."

Nice to capture a rare WA -station on 1370 where KAST and KXTL are usually dominating on the conditions towards The Western US.

KKGM Fort Worth TX 1630 - verification

This station had a clear and loud signal on October 8, 2006 in the morning during the PAX63 last autumn. I noticed the station when I went thru an uncheked PAX63 -recording file some time ago. KKGM's PD verified my report and mp3 with a short but a very kind e-mail a couple of days ago. The station has Christian format but plays Country music every now and then as well. Tnx fr v/s -info PÄ!

KYAL Sapulpa OK 1550 -verification

I was listening to the previously unchecked PAX63 -files last Sunday and I came across an interesting sport station fading in and out on 1550 kHz with CBE and an unidentified Mexican station around 7:40 UTC on October 8, 2006. Three stations were badly mixed up with each other but at 7:40 UTC the sport station faded strongly in with a promos giving a fine "KYAL" ID. Since KYAL mainly simulcasts WWLS-640 I heard a several WWLS -mentions as well. With a help of JEÖ's v/s info I got a kind and long verification e-mail yesterday. In addition to a complete verification the v/s told me an interesting piece of history of the town of Sapulpa.

"This is to confirm your reception of KYAL October 8,2006 at 2:40CDT. At that time.... KYAL was transmitting at a power of 40 watts into a directional array of 3- 75degree towers. The main lobe is actually to the South-East direction of the US.

Here is a short history of the town of Sapulpa:
Sapulpa is the county seat for Creek County and is located in northeast Oklahoma's Green Country. It occupies an area over which six nations have flown their flags - Spain, France, England, Mexico, the Choctaw Indian Nation, and the United States. The character of Sapulpa was shaped by three historic factors - Indians, railroads and oil.

Chief Sapulpa, the area's first permanent settler, was a full-blood lower Creek Indian of the Kasihta Tribe in Osocheetown, Alabama. He arrived in Indian Territory about 1850 and established a trading post near the confluence of Polecat and Rock creeks (about one mile southeast of present day downtown Sapulpa). When the Atlantic and Pacific railroad line extended to the area in 1886, it was called "Sapulpa Station" in honor of Chief Sapulpa who had befriended the railway workers.

The treaty of 1866 between the Creek Nation and the United States provided for the establishment of post offices in the territory. In 1889 a post office named Sapulpa was opened and the town was incorporated in 1898. In 1905 the discovery of Glenn Pool oilfield, six miles southeast of Sapulpa,fostered the greatest period of growth.

The oil boom, the Frisco railroad, and the addition of two brick and four glass plants all combined to transform Sapulpa from a sleepy little village in Indian Territory to a bustling community of 20,000 by the mid-1920s. Most of the buildings in downtown Sapulpa were erected during this boom period. The work ethic passed down from those economic pioneers has created a skilled and dedicated work force. Today, industry is diversified with over 120 manufacturers employing approximately 5,000 workers. Today, Sapulpa has a healthy population for a small mid-western city. There is a strong middle class population known for its sense of community pride and diversified workforce.

The character of Sapulpa was shaped by three historic factors - Indians, railroads and oil.

KQDJ Jamestown ND 1400 - verification

I captured this one during LEM234 on November 8, 2006 at 7:59 UTC. KQDJ carried ESPN sport coverage and announced "Sports Radio AM 1400 KQDJ Jamestown" on the top of the hour. The station faded in and out at the same time with KCOW Alliance NE. KQDJ verified today with a brief e-mail. Bjarne, thanks again for the v/s info!

KXMR Bismarck ND 710 - verification

I finally managed to capture KXMR 710 kHz during PAX69 in January this year after many years' trying. Thanks to JPR 's v/s information I got a kind e-mail verification from KXMR last night. "...It sounds like you and Jari have a good time with your hobby." said the v/s in his message and he is surely 100% right!
KXMR became my 18th verified station from ND.

CKCV Quebec QC 1280 - verification

CKCV on 1280 kHz was a very common catch back in 1970's and 1980's in Finland and Scandinavia. I picked it up many occasions in my home QTH in Joloskylä and during the Lemmenjoki DX-peditions at the time. CKCV signed off permanently in 1991 like many other QC -stations on AM at that time. For some reason I never managed to get any kind of verification from CKCV until... yesterday!! Luckily I had many fine audio clips of CKCV reception and thanks to JPR's v/s information I got a fine e-mail verification from a retired station manager last night. Tnx JPR!

The last FE conditions for the Season ?

The conditions have been rather variable during the last few weeks. Indeed, some good TA-reception was noted in March, particularly around the Equinox date and after that a few quite good Far East reception especially to the Philippines. Mayby the last "better" Philipinos for me (1422 new for me) were on 1422.142 (note the big split) DYZD signing off between 1500-1515 several days on March 26-30 and more usual DZME 1530 with ID on March 26 (also briedly heard later). DZME was noted just a little higher than the Romanian stations on 1530 (DZME seems to be rather stable on 1530.012 while Romanians are around .000 and .006). These conditions are best just about an hour before local sunset time, but you have to be carefull as the best reception last sometimes only 15-20 minutes on these European channels. A SDR-receiver is very good also looking for the splits as was the case of 1422.14 station. As you can see 1422.14 is even stronger than Europeans on 1422.0 at the time of a screen shot.

Towards to the End of MW-DX-Season 2006-7

Well, at least at my QTH it is time to collect my FE BOG out from the field. You can even see a tiny wire right at the picture - taken at sunrise time - going to about 40 degr. (look at the left bottom of the picture). Last year there was snow until 20 April, but the climate change is here ?

I spent two nights in JPR QTH in Muhos. In first night conditions was weak, but the second night was fair to good.
